All About Mrs. Matus!
My name is Jennifer Matus and I am so excited to be embarking on my 14th year (Wow! Already??) of teaching here at Bridge Point Elementary School!! I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Elementary Education and a specialization in Early Childhood Studies. During my first year at Bridge Point I had the honor of working in the Special Education Department, and then became a teacher on the third grade team the very next year. My sixth year at Bridge Point was both a challenging, yet extremely enjoyable and rewarding one, as I had the amazing experience of being a BPE Kindergarten teacher. This was truly an unforgettable year, as I am sure you can imagine! For my sixth year to the present however, I have been back in the third grade, and again, could not be more thrilled to be teaching here at Bridge Point Elementary School in the Eanes Independent School District!!
My husband, Lance, is a fifth grade teacher at Eanes Elementary, and actually proposed to me in my classroom with the children all looking on (what a brave guy!)! I am so excited to say that this summer we just celebrated our ninth year wedding anniversary! We have three amazing children, our princess, Meghan, who is 7 years old and is just starting second grade here at BPE, our little monkey, Tyler, who is 5 years old and will be a big shot kindergartener this year at BPE, and our newest little spunky blessing, Weston, just celebrated his second birthday and attends the Valley View Child Development Center three days a week! Lance and I have truly both enjoyed being teachers and feel so blessed to also be on the other side, trying our hands out as parents! Those precious moments really do go by way too quickly!!
My mother was also an elementary school teacher in Houston for 38 years, so I can always remember watching her while growing up and knowing that teaching is where I would also be one day. Helping students learn and seeing that spark in their eyes is definitely something that you can never trade! Working in this amazing flexible learning space has also been and incredible honor and truly the most amazing experience of my teaching career, I truly look forward to working with, and getting to know, each and every one of you and your families this school year. I can already tell this is going to be one AMAZING group of third graders!!
